Australia's Got Talent 6 Final - Soul mystique

Despite their tough opposition, Soul Mystique made the final as a judges choice. There, they pulled out all the stops in a bid to win the A$250,000 prize

What did they do?

For the final, Soul Mystique started with a mime routine, then gave us all sorts of clothes changes. They included a giant box which made them disappear, then reappear with different clothes, and all sorts of colourful cloths, suits and dresses. They finished by changing into wedding clothes amidst a shower of confetti. In short, an impressive performance. Soul Mystique have certainly came a long way since they first appeared in series 1, but have they come far enough to win a more competitive series?


What did the judges say?


All three judges gave Soul Mystique a standing ovation. Danni called them "Incredible" and said she couldn't figure their routine out. Kyle called it "spectacular" and praised the increased amount of clothes changes compared to previous routines. Finally, Brian praised the unique nature of the act and called it "mind boggling".


What is the competition like?

Unlike last years series, which was dominated by eventual winner Jack Vidgen,  there are no clear favourites this year, although the amazing gymnastics act Odyssey look the most likely to win. Also looking good are country rock band The Wolfe Brothers and singer-songwriters Joe Moore and Andrew De Silva, of whom the latter, with his more contemporary approach and devoted fan-base, looks the more likely winner. Dance crew Kookies N Kream and beat boxer Genesis are outsiders, but might fare well in the vote. Even stripper Dylan Yeandle, who looks out of place in the final, has a strong fan-base and can't be ruled out. Anyone could win this year.

What are their chances?


As a judges choice in the most competitive of the two Semifinals, Soul Mystique's chances of winning appear to be only moderate, but a strong performance and a solid fan-base mean they could spring an upset. I have a feeling they will be in the top 5 at least. 

Australias Got Talent series 6 semifinals-Soul Mystique

Australias got Talent is back in full swing, with the final drawing ever closer. Three magic acts made the live shows, but whilst comedy illusionist Pip and mentalist Anthony Laye didn't get through, quick-change duo Soul Mystique made the semifinals.

How Did they do?

Soul Mysique had a burlesque theme for their semi-final performance, and utilised jets of smoke, feathers and clothes racks for their costume changes. Whilst quick change is a pretty narrow field of magic, Soul Mystique's clothes changes were fresh and original. Unlike their equivalents from Americas Got Talent, David and Dania, who essentially repeated their audition performance throughout their run on the show,  Soul Mystique do something different and impressive each time.

What did the judges say?

Danni Minouge called it "Beautiful" and praised Soul Mystique for upping their game. Kyle Sadilands called it "fascinating" and hoped the duo made the final. Todd Mckenney, standing in for judge Brian Mcfadden, said he was "A mad fan", but voiced the only critisism, wondering if the busy nature of the act made some of the changes less spectacular. The performance also went down very well with the audience and host Grant Denyer

What is the competition like?

To reach the final, Soul Mystique will have to beat some tricky opposition. Three acts stood out in particular. Flowers For Midnight did an excellent version of "With a little help from my friends", The Nelson Twins are the funniest comedy act ever seen on Australias Got Talent, and Kookies N Kream could follow in the footsteps of previous champions Justice Crew. The other four acts weren't as good, but have significant fanbases. George and Noriko are a unique east-meets-west guitar act, The Wolfe Brothers sang an original song, Rhys Tolhurst is a young crooner with a strong voice, and Andrew De Silva is a very modern singer-songwriter. Unfortunately for Soul Mystique, this is the stronger of the two semifinals (they are one of six acts in this heat who got through by public vote)

What are their Chances?

Soul Mystique's Chances of reaching the final are only moderate, due to their tricky opposition, but they certainly deserve a place there

AUSTRAILIAS GOT TALENT FINAL -COSENTINO'S PERFORMANCE

WHAT DID COSENTINO DO?

Cosentino's final performance was amazing. After floating down onto the stage, Cosentino announced that whilst that was an illusion, everything he was about to do would be for real. He was restrained in a straitjacket and dangled underneath literal (And flaming) Jaws of death which would snap shut in 82 seconds if he had not escaped by that time. Cosentino milked the suspense generated by this routine to the last, literaly jumping down to the ground, free of the restraints, just as the jaws snapped shut, and the relief when he got up safe and sound was palatable. When asked how well he thought the routine went, Cosentino joked "I survived"

WHAT DID THE JUDGES SAY?

Brain  praised the fact that Cosentino just got "Better and better" and also supported his aim of using the $250,000 prize money to open a magic school. Danni noted that the trick scared her, but was generally full of praise, comparing his performances to "Some kind of new fantasy land". Finally ,Kyle, who was unwell but judging by video link, said Cosentino was "World-Standard" and "Excellent" and likened his last-second escapes to the Roadrunner

WHAT ARE COSENTINO'S CHANCES OF WINNING?

Cosentino is coming into the results show as a dark horse. He performed last and recieved good comments from the judges, but the nine acts he is up against are also excellent. However, Cosentino's main rival is Jack Vidgen. A 14 year-old singer, Vidgen has recieved praise and attention from media across the world, but has recently suffered some negative publicity. This concerns the fact that the "Original" song he performed in the final, "Yes I am" is not his own work.. This has led to some strong critism online and could cost him victory. That said, he is still the one to beat. There are also other acts who gave excellent final performances, such as song and dance group Tinomatic and comedian Rod Gregory, but I still think Cosentino has a moderate, hopefully high, chance of winning

COULD A MAGICIAN WIN AUSTRAILIA"S GOT TALENT

Whilst many britions are familiar with Britains got Talent or Americas got Talent,  the controversy when a

comedian on the show copied a Lee Mack joke is the only knowledge we have of the Austrailian version

However British magic fans are missing out on something big. One of the finallists this year is magician and escapologist Paul Cosentino. His Audition, quarter final and semifinal performances can be seen below

So, can Cosentino win? The final airs in Austrailia on Tuesday and Cosentino has several excellent rivals, such as the 14 year old singer Jack Vidgen or the singing dancing group Tinomatic. However Cosentino has impressed Judges and viewers alike with his performances and even though Adam Murby who represented the art of magic in the final last year with the trick shown below didn't win, Cosentino has advanced with more support and better votes
